'Cats Welcome Iowa, Pepperdine to Combe this Weekend

EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 10 Northwestern will host Iowa and No. 20 Pepperdine this weekend at the Combe Tennis Center. The 'Cats will face off against Iowa at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, February 20, and will take on No. 20 Pepperdine on Sunday, February 24, at 11 a.m. CT.

Fans are encouraged to stick around following Sunday's match for post-match autographs from the team.
Northwestern (5-4) comes into the weekend after playing Georgia Tech in Atlanta this past Sunday. There, first-year No. 59 Clarissa Hand defeated No. 26 Kenya Jones 7-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Earlier in the weekend, Hand defeated No. 70 Livia Kraus of Baylor. Throughout the weekend, she and senior Lee Or at No. 1 doubles also went undefeated, helping to win the doubles point for the 'Cats against both teams.
Following this performance, Hand was selected as the Big Ten Athlete of the Week and is now ranked at No. 30 nationally. Hand and Or are ranked No. 20 as a duo.
Iowa sits 7-0 so far this season but has yet to face a ranked opponent.
Pepperdine (3-2) is currently on a two-match losing streak and will play Michigan in Ann Arbor before coming to Evanston. Northwestern and Pepperdine last faced off in 2002, Pepperdine barely taking that match, 4-3.
Iowa's arrival marks the beginning of Big Ten play for the 'Cats, who won the conference title with an 11-0 record last season. Following Pepperdine, Chicago's Big Ten Team will continue its run at home and host Illinois on March 1 at 5 p.m.
