School Record falls at Day One of Big Ten Championship

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Northwestern women's swimming and diving team kicked off the 2019 Big Ten Championships with a record breaking performance on Wednesday night.
In the 200 medley relay, sophomores Calypso Sheridan and Sophie Angus, first-year Miriam Guevara and junior Malorie Han finished in a time of 1:36.93 to place sixth overall and shatter their previous school record set at the 2019 TYR Invitational.
Sheridan led off the relay in a split of 24.05, followed by Angus in the breaststroke who closed in 27.18. Guevara swam the third leg for the Wildcats and touched in 23.70 in the butterfly, followed by Han who closed the relay in 21.92 to secure the program-best time.
The relay team of junior Krystal Lara, sophomores Ilketra Lebl, Han, and sophomore Rachel Tseng finished 10th in the 800 medley relay in a seasons-best time of 7:17.35 to add an additional 34 points for the 'Cats to conclude the first day of competition.
After day one of competition, Chicago's Big Ten Team currently sits seventh with 82 points, just 16 points back from Purdue. Prelims included in the Thursday morning session are the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 freestyle and the 1M dive. The evening session will include the finals of those same events and the 400 medley relay. Finals are set to begin at 5:30 pm CT.
