
‘Cats Close Out Weekend with Sunday Sweep

EVANSON, Ill. – Northwestern closed out their busy weekend with wins in both Sunday matches against Purdue and Chicago State.
The Wildcats started the day off at Combe Tennis Center where they claimed their first Big Ten win of the season besting the Purdue Boilermakers, 5-2.
The 'Cats claimed the first point of the match with wins from the doubles teams of Simen Bratholm/Nick Brookes (6-1) and Antonioni Fasano/Trice Pickens (6-2) who played in the No.1 and No.3 positions.
In singles play, NU continued their dominance taking the next four points with wins from the No. 1, 3, 5 and 6 singles.
Trice Pickens secured the first point of singles play for Northwestern, defeating Santiago Galen in two quick sets 6-3, 6-3. First-year Simen Bratholm followed closely behind also dropping his opponent, Franz Luna in two sets (6-1, 7-6).
Nick Brookes delivered four straight aces en route to besting Athell Benett 6-3, 7-5 and clinching for the 'Cats. Sophomore Antonioni Fasano put an exclamation on the match for Northwestern defeating Maksymilian Rapuk 6-3, 6-3 to put the Wildcats up 5-0.
NU carried their momentum to Homewood, Ill. to face off against Chicago State, where they made quick work of Cougars and took the match 4-0.
In a similar fashion to the earlier match, Northwestern claimed the doubles point with wins from Brookes/Bratholm (6-4) and Fasano/Pickens (6-3).
To clinch the second match of the day, the 'Cats had wins from Chris Ephron, Trice Pickens and Ben Vandixhorn, which also secured their sixth win of the season.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back at Combe Tennis Center on February 17 for a doubleheader against Ball State and UIC starting at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
