WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Wildcats wrap up their nonconference schedule at the West Palm Invitational this weekend hosted by Keiser University with matchup against East Carolina on Friday and Xavier on Saturday.
Northwestern enters the tournament with an 8-1 record after a 74-47 win against UT Arlington on Monday on Field Trip Day. Four 'Cats scored in double digits and the Wildcats set season-highs in three-pointers made and taken with 11 and 25, respectively.
Sophomore guard Veronica Burton stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with 13 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and two steals. Burton continues to lead the Big Ten in steals with 3.6 a game. Junior guard Jordan Hamilton posted a season-high in points and finished 3-3 from deep.
Head coach Joe McKeown stands at 699 wins in his career heading into the tournament. With a win he would become the 13th active coach to reach the 700 mark and the 35th coach all-time in collegiate women's basketball.
The 'Cats boast the seventh best scoring defense in the country allowing just 50.3 points per game. They also rank in the top-ten nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.69) and turnover margin (+8.3).
East Carolina has an 3-7 record this season. their only Power 5 matchup came in a 76-53 loss to East Carolina. Xavier is 1-8 so far, but its lone win came against Utah.
