‘Cats Dominate Lewis in Exhibition, 89-34

Evanston, Ill. – Northwestern opened up their 2019-20 season by defeating Lewis, 89-34, in Wednesday night's exhibition game at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Syndey Wood, Lindsey Pulliam, and Byrdy Galernik paced the Wildcats with 15 points each. Courtney Shaw joined the trio in double-figures with 11 points.
In the first half, the 'Cats overpowered the Flyers 44-15. Pulliam and Wood each closed out the half in double-digit scoring. Pulliam led the team with 12 points and three assists, while Wood chipped in 10 points and four assists.
Galernik hit a barrage of threes in the second half to extend the Wildcats' lead. The senior would finish 4-for-4 on the night from deep.
Northwestern's newcomers also contributed in a big way in the second stanza. First-year Kaylah Rainey was electric, notching two steals and breakaway layups, including an and-one. Fellow first-year Laya Hartman added five points and two assists in her 15 minutes of action.
Veronica Burton carried over her lockdown defensive from the 2018-19 campaign. The guard recorded four steals in this matchup, after leading the Big Ten in steals last season. NU combined for 16 steals in a dominant defensive performance.
