EVANSTON, Ill. — Charlotte Hillary, an incoming member of the class of 2024 with Northwestern women's golf, received the 2019 American Junior Golf Association Jerry Cole Sportsmanship Award Sunday.
The Jerry Cole Sportsmanship Award annually honors a top junior who lives with integrity and has impacted others through sportsmanship and dedication to the values of golf.
Hillary joined the AJGA Leadership Links program in May 2019 as a way to meaningfully give back to her community. She chose to raise money for the First Tee of Green Valley Ranch, Colorado, where she has been a volunteer for two years, and to the AJGA ACE Grants program which provides financial assistance to junior golfers who aspire to earn a golf scholarship through competitive junior golf.
She reached out to her peers, friends, family and golfing community to support her goals. Through her efforts and the participation of supporters, Hillary was able to gather $290 in total pledges per birdies. With one-time gifts and 75 birdies banked over the summer in golf tournaments, Hillary raised $41,030 from 65 donors, which also included a $2,500 matching grant from the USGA.
