Wildcats Conclude Final North American Cup of 2019

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – First-year Wildcats faced the nation's best junior fencers at the November North American Cup this weekend in Milwaukee.

The 'Cats competed in junior epee on Friday, junior saber on Saturday and junior foil on Sunday. 
 
In junior epee, first-year Blodwen Bindas took on the strip. Bindas went 4-2 in pools and earned herself a bye for the first round of direct eliminations. In the round of 128, she fell short to Elizabeth Gregory, 15-8. Bindas led the team as she tied for 71st place overall.
 
In junior sabre, first-year Hannah Marques was the only fencer representing Northwestern. She went 1-5 in pools and wasn't able to make her way into direct eliminations. Marques closed out the competition 184th.
 
In junior foil, first-years Anna Biasco, Isabelle Banin and Celia Crompton represented the #B1GCats. All foil fencers made it out of the pools and placed onto the direct elimination
bracket.
 
Biasco went 4-2 in pools and made her way into the direct eliminations seeded 71st. In the round of 256, Biasco defeated Aaria Thomas, 15-6. Next, she faced Christina Gong but fell short in a close 15-14 bout. Biasco led the foil squad by placing 82nd overall. 
 
Northwestern women's fencing will be back in action next Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa at the Elite Invitational. The 'Cats, who opened up the season 5-0 at NU Fall Duals, will be looking to stay undefeated as they face some of the best teams in the country.
