Northwestern Comes Up Short In Big Ten Tournament Battle

EVANSTON, IL. — Northwestern's season came to a close on Sunday afternoon after falling short short against the Terrapins, 1-0 in the Big Ten quarterfinal match on Sunday afternoon in Martin Stadium.
Northwestern came out firing in the first half, outshooting the defending National Champions, 4-2, highlighted by a header from senior Ty Seager that was just barely blocked by Maryland's keeper.
"Our seniors gave it everything they had. They left it all out on the field. They gave everything to this program and we took a big step this year and I'm proud of them," said Head Coach Tim Lenahan.
After a defensive battle in the second half, Maryland converted a penalty kick In the 70th minute to take the 1-0 lead.
With two minutes left in the half the 'Cats earned a corner kick, but were unable to capitalize and tie up the game.
Chicago's Big Ten Team finished its season with an 8-8-2 overall record.
