'Cats Dominate Spartans in Straight Sets

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern was firing on all cylinders on Friday night, defeating Michigan State, 3-0, at Welsh-Ryan Arena to earn its first Big Ten victory of the season.
Junior Nia Robinson had a night to remember, collecting her 1,000th career kill to go along with a match-high 13 kills on the game. Robinson is the 24th player in program history to record 1,000 career kills.
Sophomore Ella Grbac was also a major contributor, tallying 12 kills to go along with three blocks and two assists.
Alana Walker led all players with five blocks, with first-year Desiree Becker and junior Danyelle Williams close behind with four blocks each. Graduate student Payton Chang also chipped in 31 assists and eight digs.
The 'Cats came out of the gate strong with a 7-2 run to open the first set. Northwestern ultimately took the set, 25-20, closing with six-straight points. Emily Ehman recorded two aces in the set.
After opening the second set with a 6-1 deficit, the Wildcats stormed back to take the set 25-17, closing with a dominant 9-1 run. Ella Grbac led the 'Cats with five kills in the set.
The third set began with as a tightly contested battle, until Northwestern rattled off a 10-2 run, eventually closing out the set with a 25-16 victory. Nia Robinson had a dominant set with six kills.
The Wildcats will look to continue their momentum on Saturday night as they host Michigan at 7 PM.
