'Cats Topple No. 19 Rutgers On The Road, 4-1

EVANSTON, Ill. β No. 8 Northwestern picked up its seventh ranked win of the season with a 3-1 victory at No. 19 Rutgers.
The Wildcats grabbed the lead early after Bente Baekers converted on a penalty corner with 28 seconds remaining in the quarter. Kirsten Mansfield and Christen Conley both provided assists on the play, marking the first of the season for Conley and the 12th on the year for Mansfield, the most in the Big Ten.
The Scarlet Knights evened things up early in the second quarter, however Northwestern responded minutes later as Saar de Breij converted on her seventh goal of the season off a feed from Shannon Daley. de Breij has now scored in each of the Wildcats' last three games.
After a scoreless third quarter, Maren Seidel extended the 'Cats' lead with 12 minutes remaining on a rebound off a penalty corner. The goal marks the fifth of the season for Seidel and her first since September 16.
Baekers added another goal in the final two minutes after converting on a penalty stroke attempt for her 19th goal of the season, extending her NCAA-lead among all Division I players.
On the whole, the Wildcats outshot the Scarlet Knights, 14-10, while earning six penalty corner attempts compared to three for Rutgers. Florien Marcussen picked up her 11th win in the net as she recorded four saves on the afternoon.
Chicago's Big Ten Team will be back in action on Sunday, October 20 when they play host to Kent State beginning at 11 a.m. CT. The Wildcats will resume Big Ten action in two weeks on October 26 when they travel to Iowa City for a matchup against No. 6 Iowa.
