Stephanie Lau Invited to Augusta National Women’s Amateur

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern senior standout Stephanie Lau has been invited to compete in the first-ever Augusta National Women's Amateur April 3-6.
The event was established to inspire greater interest and participation in the women's game by creating a new, exciting and rewarding pathway for those players to fulfill their dreams.
"When I heard the announcement of this event last year, I was beyond excited for women's golf," Lau said. "The message that Augusta National brings to the table with its deeply-rooted legacy in the world of golf is tremendous and it speaks volumes to every woman golfer out there. I am so humbled and grateful to be invited to play in the event and be a small part of it."
"The Augusta National Women's Amateur is another great step forward in elevating the women's game and I am thrilled that Steph has been invited as a part of this elite field," head coach Emily Fletcher said. "I couldn't be more excited for her and know she is going to represent Northwestern in the highest fashion."
An international field with 72 of the top women amateurs in the world will compete over 54 holes of stroke play. A cut will take place after 36 holes, advancing the leading 30 players to the final round at Augusta National Golf Club.
The first 36 holes will be contested over two days on the Island and Bluff nines at Championship Retreat Golf Club in August, Ga., April 3-4. The entire field will then play Augusta National for an official practice round on Friday, April 5.
Provided she remain an amateur, the 2019 Augusta National Women's Amateur Champion will receive an invitation to the next five Augusta National Women's Amateurs, the 2019 U.S. Women's Open, the 2019 Women's British Open, and any USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championships for which she is eligible in one year.
NBC Sports will produce and broadcast three hours of live final-round coverage at Augusta National from Noon – 3 p.m. EDT on April 6, 2019.
