SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Northwestern fell, 6-2, to Notre Dame on Tuesday evening at Frank Eck Stadium.
Â
The Fighting Irish did all of their scoring in the first three innings, but Northwestern was not able to re-take the lead.
Â
Junior Alex Erro went 2-for-4 with a home run, double, two RBI, and a run scored.
Â
The Wildcats struck first with a solo home run by Erro in the first inning. The Miami, Florida, native has hit four home runs this season, three of which have come in Northwestern's last 10 games.
Â
Notre Dame answered in the bottom half of the frame, plating one run on a Daniel Jung fielder's choice. Northwestern southpaw Parker Hanks worked out of a bases-loaded jam only allowing the one run, however.
Â
The Fighting Irish came back and scored two more on a single through the left side by Jack Zyska and extended their lead to 3-1 after the second inning.
Â
ND scored once more in the bottom of the third on a safety squeeze by Jared Miller.
Â
Northwestern chipped away at the Notre Dame lead in the sixth inning as Erro slugged a two-out, RBI double to right field to drive in Jack Anderson.
Notre Dame scored twice more in the eighth inning on a two-out double by Zyska.
Â
The 'Cats got effective relief pitching in the game from Danny Katz (2.0-scoreless IP), Anthony Alepra (1.0-scoreless IP), and Jack Pagliarini (1.0-scoreless IP).
Â
Next, Northwestern will play a three-game set at Ann Arbor against the Michigan Wolverines. Friday's lidlifter is at 2:30 p.m. CT and will be aired on the Big Ten Network.
