Kalfas Wins National Defensive Player of the Week Award

EVANSTON, Ill. βΒ Junior goalkeeper Annie Kalfas earned the Longstreth/NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week award, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Wednesday.Β

Kalfas won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, and the national award is given to the best offensive and defensive player each week from the pool of conference award winners.

The goalkeeper posted back-to-back ranked shutouts over No. 13 Iowa and No. 25 California last weekend, making two saves against the Hawkeyes and four against the Golden Bears. Her season goals-against-average is now down to 1.45

Senior Puck Pentenga was the last Wildcat to win an NFHCA weekly award, taking Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 18, 2017.Β

Kalfas is up to five career shutouts as a junior, two short of the Wildcat top-ten all-time.Β
