EVANSTON, Ill – Senior Brenna Lovera and first year Julietta Thron were named Big Ten Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday.

Lovera scored three times in the last week, netting the game winner in a 1-0 win over Loyola Marymount and both goals in the 2-0 win over Bowling Green.

Lovera leads the team in points this season with four goals and one assist. She now has 15 career goals, two shy of the top-ten list all-time in program history. Her ten career game-winning goals are now a program record.

Thron assisted the lone goal against LMU and assisted Lovera's first goal against Bowling Green on a cross. She played all but 15 minutes total across both games in the Wildcat backline, which posted its fifth and sixth straight shutout in a row.

Thron has been an integral part of a defense that has not allowed a goal in 611:47 minutes, the second-longest streak in the program history. The 'Cats lead the country in shutouts with six and are third nationally in goals-against-average with a mark of .138.

The #B1GCats also made waves on Tuesday in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, improving three spots to No. 12 in the country. The 'Cats are the highest ranked team in the Big Ten.

Lovera and Thron are third and fourth players to win weekly honors this season from the conference. Senior Kayla Sharples won Defensive Player of the Week after the opening weekend of the season while first year Mackenzie Wood won Goalkeeper of the Week and Co-Freshman of the Week after the second week of the season.

This is the first season in program history that the Wildcats have had four different players win weekly honors in the same season.

Northwestern opens up Big Ten play this weekend with a road trip to face No. 22 Wisconsin on Friday and Minnesota on Sunday.
