Marcussen Makes Career-High Ten Saves Against No. 3 Duke

COLLEGE PARK, Md. βΒ Sophomore Florien Marcussen made a career-high ten saves Friday afternoon against No. 3 Duke in College Park, Md. in the Big Ten/Acc Cup.

In one match, Marcussen more than doubled her previous career save total of eight. Marcussen made the most saves in a match since Annie Kalfas made 13 saves against Boston College last season on Sept. 1, 2017.Β

The No. 12 Wildcats fell 4-0 to Duke and dropped to 1-2 on the season.Β

Lakin Barry, Puck Pentenga, Maren Seidel and Shannon Lackey all registered shots for the Wildcats.Β

The Wildcats held the Blue Devils in check the entire first half, with Marcussen making four saves and the back line repelling five Duke corners.Β

Duke took the lead just under three minutes into the second half through Rose Tynan, who scored on a rebound after Marcussen made an excellent initial save.Β

Saar de Breij nearly leveled the match minutes later getting in on goal all alone, but the Duke goalkeeper came off her line early to deny the Wildcat junior.Β

12 minutes into the second half, Duke added two more goals in the span of less than a minute to make it 3-0. The Blue Devils added a fourth with under four minutes to play.Β
