Mao Earns Third-Straight WGCA All-American Scholar Honor

EVANSTON, Ill. — Wildcat golfer Janet Mao was named an All-American Scholar for the 2017-18 season, the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced.
It is the third-straight All-American Scholar honor for the rising senior.
Mao, who also earned First Team All-Big Ten nods this season, received the honor after reaching the minimum cumulative GPA threshold of 3.50. The WGCA All-American Scholar Team's criteria are among some of the most stringent in all of collegiate athletics.
In addition to her off-the-course accomplishments, Mao has helped lead the Wildcats to top-10 finishes at all of her three NCAA Championships, including a second-place finish in 2017.
The neuroscience major also posted Academic All-Big Ten honors in the 2017-18 season, marking her second-straight honor.
The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
