Mao Qualifies For 2018 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship

HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Rising senior Janet Mao finished in the Top-4 at Calumet Country Club on Thursday to earn her third-straight invitation to the United States Women's Amateur Championship. Mao joins classmate Stephanie Lau in the elite field set to compete at The Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs on August 6.
A birdie on Calumet's 332-yard, Par-4 No.16, which surrendered only five scores under-par on the day, allowed her to play the final five holes of the day at 1-under and finish with a 2-over 73.
The 2018 First Team All-Big Ten honoree fired 2-under 70 last summer in Round 2 of the 2017 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship to comfortably secure a match play berth, and advanced to the Round-of-32 before bowing out at San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, California.
The Johns Creek, Georgia native, a neuroscience major, was honored with her third consecutive WGCA All-American Scholar recognition this summer.
