Northwestern Announces Challenging 2018 Schedule

2018 Northwestern Field Hockey Schedule
EVANSTON, Ill. β Nine matches against 2017 NCAA Tournament teams, including a season-opening visit from defending national champion UConn highlight a challenging 2018 Northwestern field hockey schedule announced Wednesday.

Coming off an NCAA tournament appearance of their own a year ago, the Wildcats will be tested early and often in their slate. The campaign opens August 24 when NU welcomes UConn, the alma mater of head coach Tracey Fuchs, to Lakeside Field. It is the first of three matches for the 'Cats against teams that reached at least the national semifinals last season.

The season-opening homestand continues two days later when Northwestern faces Stanford.

The annual Big Ten/ACC Cup moves to the University of Maryland campus this season as the Wildcats take on Duke August 31 prior to a matchup against Boston College September 2. After a day off, NU remains on the road as it travels to Ohio to face Kent State.

Two more 2017 NCAA Tournament participants come to Evanston September 7 and 9 as Northwestern hosts Miami (Ohio) and Boston University, respectively.

The 'Cats head back out on the road the following weekend as they open their Big Ten season September 14 at Indiana. Following a travel day, Northwestern treks to Louisville for an NCAA tournament rematch from a year ago won by the 'Cats, 3-2, in overtime.

The Big Ten home opener is set for September 21 as Iowa visits Lakeside Field, just prior to a visit from California on the 23rd. The following weekend features a return trip to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan who topped NU in last year's NCAA quarterfinals, preceding a visit to Michigan State.

Northwestern wraps up its regular season with four of its final five matches on its home field, beginning with an October 5 showdown against Ohio State. Contests against Rutgers (Oct. 12) and Penn State (Oct. 14) conclude the home portion of the Wildcats' conference schedule.

NU wraps up league play at defending national runner-up Maryland on October 19 prior to hosting Ball State on Senior Day October 21 to conclude the regular season.
