The only American among the final 16, the Fullerton, California, native knocked off Alessia Nobilio 1-Up to secure a spot in the quarterfinals. Once there, she opened up a gap on Norway's Emilie Overas with wins on Nos. 14 and 15 to nail down a 3&2 victory and move on to Saturday's semifinal. In the semis, Lau was faced with hometown favorite Hollie Muse, who hailed from just down the road in Liverpool. The Wildcats stalwart won Nos. 10, 11 and 13 on her way to a dominant 5&4 victory.
In the final, Lau pushed the match to No. 16 before ultimately falling 3&2 to Harm, the 2018 American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Year from the University of Houston.
The Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship was founded in 1893 by the Ladies Golf Union and was first played at Royal Lytham and St Annes. Lady Margaret Scott was its first ever Champion.
Hillside is located in Southport in the heart of England's Golf Coast. It is situated adjacent to Royal Birkdale as well as Southport & Ainsdale, with Formby Golf Club a few miles down the road. A true championship links, Hillside is a regular venue for The Open Final Qualifying and has also hosted several prestigious championships including The Amateur Championship.
The course meanders through majestic sandhills and tranquil pinewoods, and many of the holes have elevated tees with fantastic views over the Irish Sea. The back nine holes were redesigned in the 1960s, making the homeward journey a challenging one for golfers of all standards. After playing the course, Greg Norman wrote to the Club saying that "The back nine were the best in Britain".
