Six Wildcats Earn All-Big Ten Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. — Led by unanimous selections Sheila Nesselbush and Selena Lasota, six Northwestern Wildcats were named to the women's lacrosse All-Big Ten Team Wednesday afternoon. 

Nesselbush and Lasota were two of eight unanimous picks on the 21-member team which also includes senior defender Ally Mueller, senior attack Shelby Fredericks, senior defender Lindsay Darrell and redshirt first-year goalkeeper Julie Krupnick

The Wildcats' six selections tied with Maryland for the most in the league.

Lasota garnered All-Big Ten honors for the third time in her career after leading the Wildcats in the regular season in goals (47), points (62) and free-position goals (9). She is tied for third in the conference in goals per game (2.76) and is second in points per game (3.65). The Campbell River, British Columbia, native has 14 multi-goal games in 17 games played this season and has been dominant as of late, tallying 31 points over her last six games. 

Nesselbush earned All-Big Ten honors for the first time thanks to a breakout offensive campaign in her senior season. She has set career highs this season in goals (44), assists (11), points (55), shot percentage (.603) and free-position goals (8). The Penfield, New York, native led all players during conference play with 4.50 points per game and was tied for third with 3.50 goals per game. Nesselbush, who leads the Big Ten and ranks fifth nationally in shooting percentage, enters the conference tournament on a career-long 12-game point streak in which she has recorded 47 points. 

Fredericks also earned her first career All-Big Ten honor with one of the more dominant seasons of any player in the country. Despite missing the first four games of the year, Fredericks leads the Big Ten in draw controls (108) and is second in assists (35). She ranks fourth nationally in draw controls per game (8.31) and is sixth among DI players in assists per game (2.69). The Long Island native has recorded an assist in 11-straight games and has dished out at least two in each of her last seven games. Fredericks had a nine-assist game versus Rutgers, marking the second-best output in program history and tying for the second-best performance in the country this season. 

Darrell ranked third in the Big Ten in caused turnovers per game (1.35) and was tied for fourth in ground balls per game (2.06) to earn her first career All-Big Ten plaudit. She recorded a career-high 23 caused turnovers during the regular season and her 35 ground balls are just one shy of her career high set during her rookie campaign in 2015. A Long Island native, Darrell has been a key cog on a NU defense that ranks 22nd in the country in scoring defense (9.82) and 19th in save percentage (.486). 

A two-time Big Ten All-Tournament Team selection, Mueller earned All-Big Ten honors for the first time in her career thanks to career highs in ground balls (25) and caused turnovers (12) during the regular season. Mueller has had at least two ground balls in seven games, including a career-high six at Penn. 

Krupnick burst on the scene as one of league's most dominant keepers, starting all 17 games during the regular season and finishing the regular season second in the conference and 20th nationally in goals-against average (10.13). She posted double-digit saves six times, including a career-high 14 in a key conference win at Johns Hopkins, and held 11 of 17 opponents to 10 goals or less. 

Northwestern earned the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament with a 5-1 mark in conference play. The Wildcats will take on No. 3-seed Penn State in front of a national audience on the Big Ten Networkat 6:30 p.m. CT in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Friday night.
