STILLWATER, Okla. – Led by sophomore Brooke Riley's even-par 72, Northwestern climbed into the Top-4 after 36 holes at the 2018 NCAA Women's Golf Championships, hosted at Karsten Creek Golf Club (Par-72; 6,328 yards).

Riley bounced back from a challenging opening round to play an efficient 18 holes on Saturday with 12 pars and three birdies.
Overall, Northwestern deployed a measured and tactical approach to one of the most challenging courses in college golf on Saturday, and the results showed. While the 'Cats carded two fewer birdies than in Friday's first round, they posted only two hole scores higher than bogey all day, as opposed to ten in Round 1. Northwestern improved by six strokes from day one to day two, and currently shares the tournament lead with 32 total birdies.
Stephanie Lau closed her second round as impressively as any player in the field, with birdies on four of her last six holes, including three straight from Nos. 6-8. The venomous sixth at Karsten Creek has played as the most difficult offering on the course, but Lau and Hannah Kim birdied it back-to-back late in the round to shave two strokes off the Wildcats team score.
While conditions were clear and hot in the morning, the afternoon groups were interrupted by lightning that suspended play and sent the golfers to shelter in place in evacuation vans. Thunderstorms and, ironically, golf-ball sized hail are possible overnight across central Oklahoma.
Northwestern will be among the first on the course for Sunday's third round of play. The Wildcats will tee off from No. 10, beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT, paired with Arizona and Florida State. Following Sunday's action, the 24-team field will be cut to 15 for one more round of stroke play Monday, before the Top-8 advance to match play beginning Tuesday.
Northwestern – 6/24 • 299-293-R3-R4 = 592 (+16)
T19 – Janet Mao – 68-78-R3-R4 = 146 (+2)
T30 – Hannah Kim -- 75-73-R3-R4 = 148 (+4)
T62 – Stephanie Lau – 78-74-R3-R4 = 152 (+8)
T62 – Sarah Cho -- 78-74-R3-R4 = 152 (+8)
T106 – Brooke Riley -- 87-72-R3-R4 = 159 (+15)
Karsten Creek Golf Club will host the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Golf Championships May 17-30. Karsten Creek has previously hosted the NCAA Men's Golf Championship in 2003 and 2011. 2018 will mark the first time that Karsten Creek has played host to the NCAA Women's Golf Championship.
Former Oklahoma State golf coach and current athletic direction Mike Holder partnered with renowned golf course designer Tom Fazio to construct one of the most challenging golf courses in the country. When it opened in 1994, Karsten Creek was named "Best New Course" in the country by Golf Digest. The zoysia fairways were cut from a forest of oaks and black jacks, complemented by an undulating terrain that flows throughout the course. The back-nine cascades around the 110-acre Lake Louise that is featured on the finishing holes. The over-seeded rough, greens that make the ball roll as if on glass and intense Oklahoma winds sweeping down the fairways make the course perplexing even for some of the world's top amateur golfers.
