Moss Named Conference Coach of the Year

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern head coach Zach Moss was named Midwest Fencing Conference Coach of the Year, collecting another accolade from a historic season.
The award was voted on by all 23 varsity and club teams in the conference.
Moss has earned his first coach of the year award in his second year in charge of the fencing program. He oversaw a historic season for the Wildcats, where the team captured its fifth-ever Midwest Fencing Conference championship and finished with three All-Americans at the NCAA Championships.
In addition, the team set the program record for most wins in a season with 47 and the program record for longest win streak, which encapsulated 25 matches.
With the guidance of assistant coach Eric Momberg and volunteer assistant coach Luther Clement, the foil and sabre squad claimed a fifth weapon title each at the MFC Championships.
Six different individual fencers finished as semifinalists or better at the MFC individual competitions. Moss also had 12 fencers compete at the Midwest Regionals, with Emine Yücel taking home the fifth-ever individual Midwest Regional title in program history and first in sabre since 2001. Four 'Cats qualified for the NCAA Championships and Sarah Filby, Yvonne Chart and Pauline Hamilton earned All-American honorable mention there.
The program's last coach of the year award came in 2016 for Laurie Schiller, who ended his last season in charge of the program before retirement with a MFC Championship.
