EVANSTON, Ill. — After leading Northwestern to three wins over ranked opponents, senior midfielder Sheila Nesselbush has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and redshirt first-year goalkeeper Julie Krupnick has been named the conference's Freshman of the Week.
Krupnick was named the league's Freshman of the Week for the first time this season after making 38 saves and posting a goals-against average of 10.06 in three wins over No. 11 Syracuse, No. 23 Johns Hopkins and No. 6 Penn. The Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, native had 12 saves versus the Orange and Quakers, while making a career-high 14 stops in the win over the Blue Jays. Her 14 saves tied the second-best mark in program history and were the most by a Wildcat since Morgan Lathrop stopped 14 shots versus Maryland in 2007. Krupnick also received Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors in February.
Nesselbush was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career after scoring 11 points (9 goals, 2 assists) in the three games. Nesselbush opened her week with a monster day versus the Orange, recording career highs with five goals and six points. She scored three goals and dished out an assist at Johns Hopkins, including the game-winning goal with 2:22 left in regulation. The Penfield, New York, native scored her ninth goal of the week in the win at Penn, recording her 100th career point. She is the 20th NU player since 2002 to reach 100 career point.
The senior co-captain has tallied 25 points in her last seven games to reach the milestone.
The Wildcats are on a four-game winning streak, their longest since 2015, and vaulted to No. 8 in the IWLCA poll following the three wins last week. The 'Cats return home Friday night to host Ohio State at 7 p.m.
