Northwestern Falls to Iowa at Big Ten Tournament

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern men's tennis season came to a close Thursday morning with a loss to Iowa in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.
Chicago's Big Ten Team got wins from Ben Vandixhorn and Nick Brookes, and had chances to win the contest late on in singles play, but dropped a hard-fought battle to the Hawkeyes for the second time this year.
The hosts held an early advantage after taking the doubles point, but the 'Cats came back to take the upper hand early in singles play, winning the first set in five of the six matchups.
In the first match to finish, Vandixhorn recorded a dominant, 6-4, 6-2 triumph at No. 3. Not long after, Brookes gave NU its first lead in the contest with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 2. The victory gave the first-year a pair of consecutive straight-set victories to finish off his debut season.
All four remaining matches went to a third set, where the Hawkeyes were able to prevail and seal the win. Iowa took decisions at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 to complete a 4-2 victory, while the match at No. 6 went unfinished.
Northwestern will return every member of the team next season, while head coach Arvid Swan will also add highly-touted recruits Simen Bratholm and Trice Pickens to his roster.
