Nesselbush, Girardi Earn Weekly Big Ten Honors

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern senior Sheila Nesselbush was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks and first-year midfielder Jill Girardi was named the league's Freshman of the Week for the first time in her career, the league office announced Tuesday.
Nesselbush has been one of the hottest players in the country over the last month, tallying 31 points during a career-long 10-game point streak. The Penfield, New York, native scored four goals and dished out a pair of assists in a 17-13 win over No. 17 Penn State, matching her career highs in points and assists.
The Tewaaraton nominee already has career highs this season in goals (37), assists (10) and points (47). She leads the Big Ten and ranks 11th in the country with a .597 shooting percentage.
Girardi was key in the Wildcats' victory over the Nittany Lions, recording her first career hat trick and claiming a season-high two draw controls. She recorded her second career multi-goal game and became the ninth Wildcat to reach double-digit goals on the season. A native of Watertown, New York, Girardi has tallied five points over her last two games.
The Wildcats are on a seven-game winning streak and are ranked No. 7 in the country with a 12-3 recover overall. The 'Cats are unbeaten in Big Ten play with a 4-0 mark and will host Rutgers on Saturday in their regular season home finale at noon.
