Northwestern Edged by Milwaukee in the Ninth

EVANSTON, Ill. — First year Casey O'Laughlin's RBI double in the bottom of the eighth evened the contest at 4-4, but Milwaukee plated a pair of runs in the top of the ninth to go-ahead and top Northwestern, 6-4, on Tuesday afternoon.
Northwestern (9-21) outhit Milwaukee (12-18) in the contest, 9-7, but the Wildcats stranded nine runners on base compared to the Panthers' five.
Jack Dunn and Ben Dickey tallied multi-hit games, both going 2-for-4 and each scoring a run. Dickey recorded his fourth double of the season. Jack Claeys, Willie Bourbon and O'Laughlin each picked up a RBI.
Sam Lawrence, Danny Katz, Ryan Bader, Tommy Bordignon and Josh Levy each tossed scoreless innings of relief, while Lass worked a pair of scoreless frames. Lass and Bordignon each fanned a pair in their respective outings.
Brandon Parr (1-1) earned the victory for the Panthers after pitching the final 1.1 innings. He faced four batters and struck out one. Richard Fordon (1-4) was credited with the loss.
Milwaukee jumped on the Wildcats early, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning.
The Wildcats answered in the bottom of the third inning when Jack Dunn reached on a bunt single and an overthrow allowed Dickey to come around and score from second. UWM made another error in the frame that led to two additional Northwestern runs and brought the contest to 4-3.
Milwaukee and Northwestern remained scoreless over the next four frames until O'Laughlin brought Connor Lind home to tie the game with a double to right center. It was the first-career double for the rookie outfielder.
Northwestern returns to action on Friday, April 20, when it welcomes Michigan State to Miller Park at 3:30 p.m. CT.
