EVANSTON, Ill. — For the eighth consecutive quarter, Northwestern student-athletes across 19 varsity programs combined to post an average team GPA above 3.30, it was announced on Tuesday.

"At Northwestern, we strive to be world-class in the community, in competition and in the classroom, and during the recently completed winter quarter our student-athletes have done just that," said Vice President for Athletics & Recreation Jim Phillips. "These exceptional young men and women continue to raise the bar academically. Their coaches, along with our academic support staff, have created a culture where academic excellence is the standard. The entire group continues to make the Northwestern family proud."

The average student-athlete GPA during the winter quarter was a 3.32, while the average team GPA was 3.31. The Wildcats were led by women's soccer (3.64), lacrosse (3.57), and women's swimming and diving (3.54) in the quarter. Overall, there were 39 student-athletes who posted perfect 4.0 GPAs during the winter, and a remarkable 79.3 percent of NU student-athletes earned GPAs over a 3.0.

In the winter quarter, Northwestern had 46 Academic All-Big Ten selections. Between the fall (97) and the winter, NU has 143 Academic All-Big Ten honorees so far in 2017-18. Last year, Northwestern student-athletes took home a record 245 Academic All-Big Ten awards, the fourth straight in which the group broke its own record.

In November, it was announced that Northwestern earned a 97 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR), the best mark in the Big Ten and the second-best among all FBS institutions nationally. The football program's 99 percent GSR is the top score among all FBS institutions in the country and paces the Big Ten conference by 14 percentage points.

Additionally, Northwestern paces the nation in graduation rate for black male student-athletes at 88 percent, as released in a recent report published by the Race and Equity Center at the University of Southern California.
