EVANSTON, Ill. -- A top-10 battle at Combe Tennis Center is on tap for Friday afternoon when the eighth-ranked Northwestern women's tennis team plays host to No. 5 Georgia Tech. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m.

The Wildcats follow up the match by returning to Big Ten play at 2 p.m. Saturday when they host Purdue.

NU (8-3, 2-0 B1G) enters Friday's contest on a five-match winning streak. The stretch has included three victories over ranked teams, including back-to-back wins over top-10 opponents.

The Wildcats are seeking their third win over a top-10 team this season when the Yellow Jackets come to town Friday.

Northwestern and Georgia Tech have split their 16 previous meetings. The Yellow Jackets won, 7-0, March 22 in Atlanta and again, 4-0, May 14 in Atlanta in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Like NU, Georgia Tech (9-1) has won five in a row and it has only one loss this season, to Pepperdine, 4-2, at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

The matchup between the Wildcats and Yellow Jackets is slated to include a matchup of top-five doubles teams. Northwestern's duo of Erin Larner and Maddie Lipp is the top-ranked team in the nation while Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones of Georgia Tech are ranked No. 4.

NU's lineup also features the No. 23 duo of Alex Chatt and Lee Or while Georgia Tech's Ida Jarlskog and Johnnise Renaud are ranked 62nd.

In singles, Larner is up to a season-best ranking of No. 50 while Lipp is No. 58 and Or is No. 85. For the Yellow Jackets, Hourigan is No. 25 and Jarlskog is No. 116.

Northwestern was victorious in both of its matches last weekend, opening its Big Ten season with a 4-2 win at then-No. 5 Illinois Friday before returning home to defeat Iowa 6-1 Sunday. Erin Larner was named the Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week on Tuesday for her efforts in wins. The senior won twice at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.

Purdue brings a 6-5 record into Saturday's contest. The Boilermakers dropped a 6-1 decision to Notre Dame last Friday. Prior to falling to the Fighting Irish, Purdue notched its best win of the season Feb. 25 when it earned a 4-3 victory at No. 38 Arkansas.

Northwestern defeated the Boilermakers, 5-0, last season in West Lafayette and leads the all-time series between the schools, 43-1.
