No. 14 Northwestern Trounces Iowa, 6-1, For Fifth Straight Win

EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 14 Northwestern rolled to its fifth straight win Sunday, taking down Iowa 6-1 at Combe Tennis Center.
The victory improves the Wildcats to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in Big Ten play. Iowa falls to 7-4 and 0-2.
The visitors gave NU a battle in doubles play but the hosts emerged with the point. Despite the Hawkeyes getting a victory at No. 2, Northwestern got wins from the second-ranked team of Erin Larner and Maddie Lipp at No. 1 as well as at No. 3 courtesy of Rheeya Doshi and Julie Byrne.
In singles action, Byrne and first-year Inci Ogut were the first two to finish their matches at Nos. 6 and 5, respectively, with each winning by 6-1, 6-3 scores.
At No. 1, 85th-ranked Larner had the distinction of clinching the match as she also finished off a straight-sets win, defeating Yufei Long 6-3, 6-4.
Northwestern made it 5-0 thanks to a comeback victory in a second-set tiebreak by Lipp. Ranked No. 65, the senior won the first set, 6-3, before rallying back from down 4-1 in the tiebreak to win the final six points and capture the match.
Iowa managed to sneak out a three-set win at No. 2 to get a point on the board, but the 'Cats registered one final victory at No. 4 where Alex Chatt outlasted Anastasia Reimchen in a third-set super-breaker, winning 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (6).
Northwestern returns to action at 2:30 p.m. Friday when it steps outside conference play to host Georgia Tech at Combe Tennis Center.
