STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Northwestern finished eighth overall at the NCAA Fencing Championships and three fencers earned All-American honorable mentions in State College on Friday.

Pauline Hamilton, Sarah Filby, and Yvonne Chart claimed All-American honors, marking just the fifth time in program history the Wildcats produced three All-Americans in the same season. The three become the 19th, 20th and 21st All-Americans in program history. Emine Yücel also finished 18th in sabre at her first NCAA Championships.

The top four fencers in any weapon earn first-team status, while the next four are placed on the second-team, with finishers nine through 12 garnering an honorable mention. Hamilton finished 11th in epee, while Filby took 10th and Chart took 12th in foil.

As a team, Northwestern finished in the top-ten for the 19th time in program history. After finishing 16th last year, the Wildcats jumped up eight spots to help conclude a memorable and historic season for the team.

Under second year head coach Zach Moss, the team set the program record for wins with 47 and longest winning streak with 25 straight dual victories. The team also captured its fifth Midwest Fencing Conference Title in program history with weapon titles from sabre and foil. Emine Yücel won just the fifth Midwest Regional in program history, and the first in sabre since 2001.

Hamilton competed at her second NCAA Championships in her career and took home 11 victories to finish 11th, a four-spot improvement from her first Championships last season. Hamilton finished the season 70-39 with a top-four finish at the Midwest Regional. Through two seasons, Hamilton has 125 career wins and is on pace to finish ninth overall in the career epee standings in program history.

Chart used an incredible run on the second day of the Championships to finish in the All-American places. After sitting at 18th place through the first 15 bouts, Chart stormed through her last eight bouts to finish with 11 wins total, which tied her with Isabella Zuzulo of Penn State and Rhiannon Harvey of Duke for 12th place. Chart's indicator of +4 was just enough to edge Zuzulo's +3 and Harvey's -2 to take the last All-American spot. Chart finished her season with 66 wins and her career total of 166 leads all active Wildcats.

Filby posted the highest individual finish at tenth place, which was no surprise given the first year's incredible rookie campaign. Filby went 60-26 and took home silver in the individual foil MFC competition. She is just the eighth first-year in program history to take home All-American honors.

Yücel wrapped up her third Wildcat campaign with her first trip to the NCAA Championships and an 18th place finish. She became just the fifth Wildcat to win a Midwest Regional and she led the sabre squad with 57 wins this season.

The NCAA Championships mark the conclusion of the Wildcats' season. The Wildcats will be still be in action in the spring at individual competitions, with Filby representing Canada at the Junior World Championships and a few more 'Cats participating at the US Fencing National Championships, with both events in April.
