Kunaiyi-Akpanah Stuffs Stat Sheet in Tight Game Against Iowa

EVANSTON, Ill. — Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah posted a career-high eight steals along with 17 points and 10 rebounds, but Northwestern fell to Iowa, 70-61, at historic Beardsley Gym on Sunday afternoon.
Kunaiyi-Akpanah recorded her 14th double-double of her junior campaign, and finished three steals shy of recording the third triple-double in program history. Her eight steals were the most for any Wildcat this season, surpassing two of her five-steal performances, and tied for fifth most in Northwestern history.
Two more 'Cats joined Kunaiyi-Akpanah in double figures. Sophomore forward Abi Scheid continued her strong season, pitching in 12 points, her 20th game with double-digit scoring.
First year guard Lindsey Pulliam added 11 points, also her 20th time in double figures this season. Sophomore guard Byrdy Galernik finished with eight points, while first year guard Jordan Hamilton tallied seven.
Northwestern forced six Iowa turnovers in a tough defensive first frame. The Wildcats opened the second quarter on 8-0 run to tie the game at 21, capped by a Pulliam jumper. Iowa followed with a run of their own and led, 37-23, at the half.
A pair of Galernik free throws cut the deficit to nine with 3:31 to go in the third quarter, but Iowa shot their way to a 53-41 lead going into the final quarter.
The 'Cats got within nine once more midway through the fourth, but couldn't mount enough of a late run.
Northwestern travels to Happy Valley for its next contest, battling Penn State on Wednesday, February 14, at 6 p.m.
