Larner Returns Home as Wildcats Trek to Oregon

EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 23 Northwestern makes its way to the Pacific Northwest on Saturday, traveling to Oregon for a match at 5 p.m. Central time.
The match is a return to the home state of senior Erin Larner who is a Portland native.
The Wildcats (3-2) are coming off a 4-2 loss to 11th-ranked Texas in Evanston on Sunday. NU remained undefeated in doubles play as it surged in front in the match and got a three-set victory from Alex Chatt in singles, but the visiting Longhorns were able to earn the victory.
Both Northwestern and Oregon advanced to the championship match at ITA Kick-Off Weekend before falling short of moving on to the ITA National Indoor Team Championships. NU narrowly dropped a 4-3 match at the hands of No. 16 UCLA while Oregon fell, 4-0, to sixth-ranked Pepperdine.
Northwestern's lineup features the nation's top-ranked doubles team as Larner and Maddie Lipp climbed to the No. 1 spot in this week's ITA rankings. The Wildcats' strong doubles unit also includes the 12th-ranked pairing of Alex Chatt and Lee Or. Larner and Or boast a No. 21 ranking when paired with one another.
Oregon (4-2) also features a strong doubles unit as Alyssa Tobita and Shweta Sangwan are No. 10. Sangwan and Julia Eshet are No. 56 when they team up.
Northwestern has two individuals nationally ranked in singles this week as Lipp is No. 70 and Or is No. 83. Oregon's lineup does not a have any players currently ranked in singles.
Saturday's matchup will be the first meeting between the schools.
