PISCATAWAY, NJ - Lindsey Pulliam led Northwestern on a 13-0 run to close a sixteen point deficit to put the 'Cats within one of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Friday night. Despite the sophomore's electric scoring effort, it was not enough to take the lead as the Wildcats fell 45-41 in their Big Ten opener in Piscataway, N.J.
It was a back and forth defensive battle in the RAC. Both teams finished the the contest shooting just under 30.0%. Rutgers' 26.8% field goal percentage is the lowest of any Northwestern opponent this season.
Pulliam led the team with 16 points, scoring 12 of those to close the gap between the Wildcats and the Scarlet Knights in the third quarter. The sophomore's performance marks her eleventh consecutive double-digit point game this season.
Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah continued to prove why she is one of the top rebounders in the conference. She pulled down 17 boards, the most on either team for the night while first year Veronica Burton contributed eight points and seven rebounds, a new career high.
The #B1GCats are back in Welsh-Ryan arena for their Big Ten home opener against in-state rival, Illinois on New Year's Eve. Tip off is set for 2 PM. Tickets for the game can be found here.
