12/31/2018 4:33:00 PM | Women's Basketball
EVANSTON, IL. - Abi Scheid ended 2018 with a bang as she secured her first double-double this season with a career high 25 points and 10 rebounds in the Wildcats victory over Illinois, 68-45, at Welsh-Ryan Arena Monday afternoon. It was the largest margin of victory over the Fighting Illini since 1990.
The junior was 10-for-15 from the field and shot a blistering 66.0 percent from beyond the arc, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to end the third quarter. Scheid's point total marked the most points by a Northwestern player this season.
Two other Wildcats posted double-digit scoring efforts, including Lindsey Pulliam with 17 points, her 12th consecutive double-digit scoring performance this season. Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah posted 12 points and eight rebounds with a season-high five steals.
First year Veronica Burton added a career high in assists with seven and pulled down five rebounds.
The Wildcats held Illinois to just 18 points in the first half, second lowest of any opponent this season. The Fighting Illini finished shooting 31.1 percent from the floor and with 16 turnovers.
Northwestern finished 2018 with an 8-5 record and 1-1 mark in conference play. The #B1GCats will take on Michigan State on Thursday, Jan 3. Tip for that game is set for 7 p.m. CT at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
