EVANSTON, Ill. — The Northwestern football program will put winning streaks on the line when it heads to Rutgers Saturday to take on the Scarlet Knights inside Highpoint.com Stadium. The Wildcats have won back-to-back games and are on a five-game road winning streak dating back to last season.
The Wildcats (3-3, 3-1 Big Ten) and Scarlet Knights (1-6, 0-4 Big Ten) will square off on the Big Ten Network with Brandon Gaudin, Glen Mason and Elise Menaker ont he call. As always, fans can listen to the broadcast with the voice of the Wildcats Dave Eanet, Ted Albrecht and Adam Hoge on WGN 720. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
B1G TIME HONORS -- Sophomore kicker Drew Luckenbaugh and senior wide receiver Flynn Nagel received Big Ten honors as the conference's Special Teams and Co-Offensive Players of the Week Monday morning. Luckenbaugh went 2-for-3 in his debut as the Wildcats' placekicker, hitting a game-winning 37-yard field goal in overtime. Nagel had career highs in the win over Nebraska, hauling in 12 catches for 220 yards and two touchdowns.
BIG TEN ROAD WARRIORS -- The Wildcats have won five-straight Big Ten road contests dating back to last season. The Wildcats are averaging 34.0 points per game over their last five road games. NU's last road loss came over an entire calendar year ago at No. 10 Wisconsin on Sept. 30, 2017, 33-24.
REWRITING THE RECORD BOOK -- Senior quarterback Clayton Thorson completed a career-high 41 passes for a career-high 455 yards and three touchdowns versus Nebraska, surpassing 9,000 career passing yards. Thorson moved past Gary Nova (Rutgers; 2001-04) into 10th all-time in Big Ten history with 9,303 career passing yards.
SCOOP N' SCORE -- Sophomore defensive end Earnest Brown IV scooped up his first career fumble recovery and returned it 16 yards for his first career touchdown in the Wildcats' win over Nebraska. Junior defensive back Trae Williams forced the fumble on his first career sack. The defensive score was the Wildcats' first since Samdup Miller had a three-yard fumble recovery against Illinois on Nov. 25, 2017.
CLUTCH 'CATS -- Northwestern posted its fifth-straight win in an overtime game with its 34-31 victory over Nebraska last week. The Wildcats were the first team in FBS history to win three-straight games in overtime last season and defeated No. 15 Notre Dame to start the streak on Nov. 15, 2014.
