Northwestern Fencing Makes Ryan Fieldhouse Debut

EVANSTON, Ill.– The Northwestern women's fencing team is set to open the 2018-19 home campaign with the Remenyik Open this Saturday and Sunday in Ryan Fieldhouse.
The Remenyik Open is a two-day USA Fencing Regional Open Circuit event open to all members of USA Fencing. The 'Cats will compete in junior sabre, senior foil and junior epee on Saturday. On Sunday, they will compete in senior sabre, junior foil and senior epee. The first bouts on both days for Northwestern will start at 10:30 a.m CT.
This is the first event in three years the 'Cats will host on campus and the first fencing meet in Ryan Fieldhouse.
"The team is thrilled at this opportunity to showcase their sport in the new Ryan Fieldhouse," said Head Coach Zach Moss. "For us, it's a test for our team and program to see where were at and evaluate our process and continue to build toward the beginning of our regular season. We are just so excited."
Each event will feature a round of pools with six or seven fencers per group in a round robin, followed by the direct elimination round featuring longer bouts up to 15 touches.
The Wildcats opened the season with the October USA Fencing North American Cup event in Milwaukee. Jula Falinska paced the 'Cats with nine wins in epée competition, Sarah Filby garnered up seven wins in foil, and first-year Emma Scala posted six wins in her collegiate debut.
