EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 8 Northwestern travels to South Bend, Indiana, this weekend for the DeCicco Duals, hosted by the No. 1 team in the country, Notre Dame.

The Wildcats will fence against Florida, Detroit Mercy, Wayne State and Notre Dame on Saturday and Indiana, Michigan State, UChicago, Clemson, McKendree, Michigan and Purdue on Sunday. The first bout will start for the 'Cats at 9 a.m. CT on Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Northwestern holds a 29-4 record and is coming off a 9-1 showing at the Philadelphia Invitational last weekend, including wins over No. 7 Temple, No. 9 Penn, and Yale, Cornell, Air Force and NYU, who all received votes in the first College Fencing 360 Coaches' Poll of the season.

By winning the first eight duals in Philadelphia, the Wildcats increased their win streak to 25 matches, a program record. The previous record was 20, accomplished twice in 2014 and 2002.

Northwestern's toughest test of the weekend comes against the Fighting Irish, the defending national champions and best team in the country. The Fighting Irish posted an 8-1 record last weekend at the St. John's and Philadelphia Invitational, with the only defeat coming to No. 2 Columbia by a score of 17-10.

The two programs battled twice last season at the DeCicco and NU Duals, with Northwestern suffering a narrow 14-13 defeat the first time around.

NU already fenced against Florida this season, shutting out the Gators at the Western Invitational. The 'Cats also shut out Detroit and defeated Wayne State 20-7 at the DeCicco Duals last season.

On Sunday, the 'Cats will be competing against some of the other schools in the Midwest Fencing Conference. They hold a 175-3 record all time against UChicago, Indiana, Michigan State, Michigan and Purdue, and have not fenced Clemson or McKendree yet.

Last weekend, 12 of Northwestern's fencers tallied double digit wins. First year Alexis Browne had 15 while her classmate Sofia Simontov had 13. Yvonne Chart, Sharon Chen, and Abby Tartell all had 12.

The Purple and White will be without two sabre fencers in South Bend, as Alexis Browne and Emine Yücel will be fencing internationally in a senior sabre world cup event in Baltimore, Maryland, with the first day of competition on Friday.
