EVANSTON, Ill. –
Northwestern opened the 2018 dual season with victories over Ball State and Saint Louis at the Combe Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

Chicago's Big Ten Team excelled in all aspects, going six-for-six in doubles matches and dropping only one singles match between the two contests. The 'Cats racked up 13 of a possible 14 total team points on the day.

In the early match, the hosts got off to a fast start by winning the doubles point to take the first lead over Ball State. NU's team of Julie Byrne and Rheeya Doshi cruised to a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles before Alex Chatt and Lee Or clinched the point at No. 2 with a 6-2 triumph.

The Wildcats continued their early dominance as all six singles players won their opening set, including three without losing a game.

In the first singles match to finish, Maddie Lipp dispatched Audrey Berger in straight sets at No. 3, giving up just one game in the process. Erin Larner followed her up with a 6-0, 6-3 victory to put Northwestern up 3-0, one point away from clinching the match.

Or sealed the win for the 'Cats in her first career match at No. 1 singles. After her 6-3, 6-2 victory over Ball State's Peyton Gollhofer, Chatt and Inci Ogut each finished off their opponents to give NU a 6-1 victory.

The home squad picked up right where it left off in the afternoon match, once again winning all three doubles matches. Saint Louis won just a single game between the three sets.

In singles, Byrne and Pozo emerged victorious in the first two matches to finish, recording identical 6-2, 6-0 results. The wins stretched the lead to three for Northwestern, which then needed just one more point to settle the contest.

Ogut continued the onslaught with a commanding 6-0 win in her first set. She went on to record a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 on a day that marked her first dual appearance for Northwestern, tallying the crucial fourth team point in the process.

Or added her second victory of the day at No. 1 singles as Chatt did the same at No. 5. A win from Doshi over Mariluz Rojo of Saint Louis cemented a flawless 7-0 win for Chicago's Big Ten Team.

Northwestern will travel to Kentucky for its next dual match on Jan. 26. Start time is scheduled for 9 a.m. CT.
