EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head field hockey coach Tracey Fuchs has announced the hire of Georgia Holland as an assistant coach.
Β
Holland comes to Evanston after spending last season as an assistant coach at Michigan State. She replaces Ali Johnstone who was named the head coach at Ohio University.
Β
"I am very excited to have Georgia join our staff," Fuchs said. "She has succeeded at the highest level, both athletically and academically and will bring a passion and energy that will be a perfect fit for the culture of our program. I have had the privilege of coaching Georgia at the Junior World Championships, and now look forward to working alongside her as we continue to build a championship program here at Northwestern."
Β
"I am honored and excited to join the Northwestern field hockey program and to have the chance to work alongside Tracey and (assistant coach) Will (Byrne)," said Holland. "I look forward to getting to campus to begin working with these extraordinary student-athletes. I am thankful to the entire Northwestern athletic administration and staff for providing me with this opportunity. I cannot wait to get started."
Β
Prior to beginning her coaching career, Holland enjoyed a standout collegiate career as a player, first at Yale and then at Wake Forest. She twice earned unanimous All-Ivy League honors (2011, 2013) at Yale and was the 2010 Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Year. A team captain, NFHCA Second Team All-Mideast Region and the ECAC Division I First Team in 2013, Holland earned Yale's Francis Gordon Brown Prize that annually recognizes the athlete who best represents leadership, scholarship and service for the university.
Β
She went on to play her final season of eligibility at Wake Forest where she was named to the NFHCA All-American Third Team and was the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and a second-team All-ACC pick. Holland's NFHCA All-South Region first team selection was the second overall all-region selection of her career.
Β
A four-time NFHCA National Academic Squad selection, she served on both the U19 and U21 National Teams in stints from 2010-13.
Β
Holland earned her bachelor's degree in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental BiologyΒ from Yale in 2014 and her master's degree in Health and Exercise Science from Wake Forest in 2016.
