EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern resumes duals season on Sunday when it faces seven opponents at the Western Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., hosted by Stanford.
The Wildcats start competition at 11 a.m. CT. They will fence the hosting Cardinal first, and then compete against Florida, Incarnate Word, UC San Diego, Vassar, Air Force and Caltech in that order during the rest of the dy.
The 'Cats are 13-3 this season and have won their last ten duals in a row, sweeping the Vassar Invitational, and taking the last two of the Elite Invitational.
Northwestern was in action individually last week at the January North American Cup in Virginia Beach, Va. The sabre team took home a first place finish, while Ella Lombard and Pauline Hamilton earned senior national ranking points in epee and Amy Jia earned junior points in foil.
The Purple and White already faced Air Force this season at the Elite Invitational and defeated the Falcons, 16-11. The Wildcats defeated Stanford, Vassar, and Florida last season and Caltech and Incarnate Word in their most recent meetings two seasons ago. The Tritons caught Northwestern at the NU Duals, 15-12, last season, but the 'Cats won the matchup two years ago at the Western Invitational.
So far, Katie Van Riper and Anya Harkness have led the epee squad with 16 and 14 wins, respectively. Ella Lombard, Anna Tolley and Shirley Luong all have double digit wins as well.
Yvonne Chart and Amy Jia both have impressive 12-3 records in foil this season, while junior Sharon Chen is 12-5 as well.
First year Ashley Gomerman has a perfect 14-0 record in sabre, while classmates Jacqeuline Hua is 14-4 and Zhesi Zhuang is 12-4.
