Roberts Paces Wildcats At Cowboy Jamboree

STILLWATER, Okla. – Northwestern finished fifth at the Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday morning in Stillwater, Oklahoma, highlighted by sophomore Aubrey Roberts' third place overall finish.

The Wildcats ran an average time of 21:30.9 at the 6K course hosted by Oklahoma state, placing them squarely in fifth out of the ten team field. Roberts led the team with a 20:47.6 to take third while fellow sophomore Sarah Nicholson ran a 21:08.0 to finish eigth.

"We had a good race. Aubrey and Sarah hung with the Chase pack through 4K, when they both started to move," head coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "The race was taken out hard by Missouri's girl [Karissa Schweizer], who is the reigning NCAA Cross Country champion."

Haley Albers posted the third best time for the 'Cats with a 22:03.3 and placed 30th overall. First year Hannah Tobin was not far behind with a 22:20.4 and snagged 40th place.

"Haley has stepped up and filled in for some of the seniors we lost last year," Coach Haynes said. "Hannah ran well for a freshman and hung with the 2nd group as long as she could but the hills took a bit of a toll."

Seniors Sara Coffey and Andrea Ostenso ran sub-23 minute times. Fellow senior Brooke Pignieri ran a 23:06.4 with first year Amanda Davis on her heels with a 23:09.0

"Sara Coffey struggled early on, but was able to close over the last K," Coach Haynes said. "Andi [Andrea Ostenso] and Brooke [Pignieri] were able to find each other in the bodies and work together through the entire race."

The Wildcats are back in action in two weeks' time for the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Louisville, Ky.
