ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A trio of Wildcats are in the Top-15 after 36 holes Monday at the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, hosted by New Mexico at the UNM Championship Course (Par 72; 6,317 yards). As a team, Northwestern will tee off Tuesday's final round just three strokes out of the lead.

Three Wildcats battled their way into the Top-15 after 36 holes, with senior Hannah Kim, and juniors Stephanie Lau and Janet Mao, all at even par heading into Tuesday's final round. Kim led the way in the morning, firing a team-best 1-under 71. The two-time defending Mary Fossum Award winner started her season with a double-bogey but then birdied three straight and five of her next seven.
Mao was the star in the afternoon with seven total birdies on her scorecard, including three of the four Par-5 offerings on the course.
Northwestern opened the season with a 2-over 290 in round one, and followed it up in the afternoon with an even-par 288 to finish Monday in fourth place as a team, just three strokes out of the lead.
There were a lot of good things, and some predictable sloppiness too with it being the first competitive event of the season," said head coach Emily Fletcher on Monday. "Our girls showed some good resilience and fight in their response to early doubles. We need to tidy up and take advantage of the Par-5's on Tuesday."
Northwestern – 4/18 • 290-288-R3 = 578 (+2)
T15 – Hannah Kim -- 71-73-R3 = 144 (E)
T15 – Stephanie Lau -- 73-71-R3 = 144 (E)
T15 – Janet Mao – 73-73-R3 = 144 (E)
T53 – Sarah Cho -- 74-75-R3 = 149 (+5)
T73 – Brooke Riley -- 72-80-R3 = 152 (+8)
The Wildcats will tee off Tuesday's third-and-final round at 7:30 a.m. MT/8:30 a.m. CT, paired with Stanford and San Diego State.
