Lau Leads 'Cats In Round 1 Of U.S. Amateur Championship

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Rising junior Stephanie Lau birdied her final two holes in Monday's opening round to rocket into the Top-18 after one day at the 117th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at San Diego Country Club.

The Fullerton, California, native carded an even-par 72, and wrapped up the first round of competition just two shots outside the Top-6. Following Tuesday's second round, the competition will be cut down to 64 players in a match play bracket.
 
Wildcats Hannah Kim (+5) and Janet Mao (+6) will tee off Tuesday's round two and three shots off the cut line, respectively.
 
Following the cut, the competition will continue with one round of match play on Wednesday, two on Thursday, quarterfinals on Friday, semifinals on Saturday, and a 36-hole championship match on Sunday, August 13. Fox Sports 1 (FS1) will air live coverage of portions of all five days of match play.
