Northwestern Drops 2-0 Decision at UMKC

8/27/2017 10:01:00 PM | Men's Soccer

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern dropped a 2-0 decision Sunday night on the road at University of Missouri Kansas City.

Northwestern (1-1) outshot the Roos in the contest, taking 17 shots compared to UMKC's 13. Jake Roberge and Garrett Opperman each led the way for the Wildcats taking three shots with Roberge putting a pair of chances on net. The Wildcats owned a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

"We started very slowly after an emotional game on Friday and gave up an early goal," said head coach Tim Lenahan. "We battled back and we were on the brink of scoring when they got a red card, which would have left us a man up with plenty of time to play.  Unfortunately, we lost our composure and got a red card on the same play to negate that advantage. I am not disappointed in our effort in the second half, but disappointed we didn't take advantage of that opportunity and lost our composure."

UMKC improved to 2-0 on the campaign.

The Roos opened up the scoring on Sunday night in the 18th minute when Christian Anderaos found Diego Serfaty, who headed a ball to the back of the net. With Northwestern looking for the equalizer late in the contest, UMKC's Eric McWoods tallied the Roos second goal of the game in the 88th minute.

The game saw UMKC assessed a red card and and seven yellow cards, while Northwestern picked up a pair of red cards and two yellow cards.

Francisco Tomasino started in net for Northwestern and made two saves, while Miha Miskovic played the final 19 minutes of the game in goal and picked up his first collegiate save.

Northwestern will continue its road swing with a trip to Colgate on Friday, Sept. 1, before heading to Syracuse on Sunday, Sept. 3.
