EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern released the 2017-18 women's fencing schedule this week featuring six duals, three North American Cup tournaments and three postseason tournaments.

Head coach Zach Moss enters his second year in charge of the Wildcats after posting a 33-14 record in duals last season and coaching Pauline Hamilton and Stephanie Chan to appearances at the 2017 NCAA Championships.

The 'Cats open the season by hosting the annual Remenyik Open on Sept 30-Oct. 1. Due to ongoing construction on the Ryan Fieldhouse and Walter Athletics Center, the Remenyik will be held in Libertyville, Ill.

Fencers will compete in another individual event at the four-day fall North American Cup starting on Oct. 13 in Anaheim, California.

The Wildcats will face a tough early-season test when they head to the Elite Invitational at Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio on Nov. 4. Last season, the 'Cats faced three top-ten teams at the Elite Invitational.

NU has another duals the next week at the Vassar Invitational in Poughkeepsie, New York on Nov. 12. In 2016, the Purple and White swept the competition at Vassar with an 8-0 record.

Northwestern kicks off 2018 with a busy January, starting with the winter NAC in Virginia Beach, Virginia from Jan. 5-8. The team then visits Stanford for the Western Duals on Jan. 14, an event which Moss's squad swept 7-0 last season.

The 'Cats close out January with the Penn Duals on Jan. 20-21 and the DeCicco Duals at Notre Dame on Jan. 27-28. The 'Cats went 4-1 in each event in 2017, falling to the ranked hosts both times.

Northwestern hosts its second event of the season, the NU Duals, on Feb. 3-4. The last duals of the season will be held in South Bend, Ind. for the third straight year with some of the best teams in the country in attendance. Last year, the 'Cats went 6-6 at the event with a ranked win over Ohio State.

Before the postseason gets underway, a select group of fencers will compete at the Junior Olympics in Memphis, Tennessee from Feb. 16-18.

NU starts its postseason Feb. 24-25 with the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships in Columbus, Ohio. NU finished second last year at the MFCs and continued 23-year streak of top-three finishes. The epee squad captured its third straight weapon group title.

The postseason continues on March 10 at the NCAA Midwest Regionals where up to four fencers from each weapon group are able to qualify. The top fencers will qualify for the NCAA Championships in State College, Pa. on March 22-25.
