Danita Stroup Eligible to Compete for Wildcats During 2018 Season

EVANSTON, ILL. — Northwestern senior attack Danita Stroup has retroactively been granted a year of eligibility by the NCAA and will return as a member of the Wildcats for the 2018 season.
A member of the Canada Senior National Team set to compete in the 2017 FIL Rathbones Women's Lacrosse World Cup next week, Stroup played the last two seasons for the Wildcats after transferring from LIU Brooklyn.
Prior to transferring to Northwestern, Stroup competed in two dates of competition during the 2014 fall non-championship segment for Long Island University. Even though she did not represent LIU during the regular season in 2015, competition in the fall segment previously constituted a season of competition under NCAA rules.
However, NCAA Proposal 2017-12, adopted by the NCAA Division I Council last week, changes the way fall competition counts for lacrosse student-athletes and applies retroactively for students in their five-year eligibility period, allowing Stroup to recapture the season of competition previously used in 2014-15.
Stroup made 19 starts for the 'Cats last season, finishing second on the team with a career-high 42 goals. She also had career highs in assists (2), points (44), shots (75), shots on goal (63), ground balls (10), draw controls (3) and caused turnovers (4). She scored at least one goal in 18 games and posted 10 multi goal games, including a career-high six goals in wins at Ohio State on and in over Albany in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, native, scored 22 goals in her first season with Chicago's Big Ten Team in 2016.
Before joining Northwestern, Stroup was a member of the Canada U19 team that won a gold medal at the 2015 FIL Rathbones U19 World Championships, scoring nine goals and dishing out 11 assists in the tournament. She started 16 games for LIU Brooklyn and finished second on the team with 31 goals, 11 assists and 42 points in 2014.
