Six Wildcats to Compete in Young Women's National Championship

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Six members of the Northwestern field hockey program have been selected to participate in the 2017 Young Women's National Championship to be played June 12-16 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Rising seniors Elena Curley and Charlotte Vaziri, sophomores-to-be Lakin Barry, Lily Katzman and Katie Esselman and incoming freshman Kaitlin Wood will represent Northwestern at the annual competition.

The Young Women's National Championship is a high-level, international structured competition which serves as a selection opportunity for the 2017-18 U.S. U-21 Women's National Team, U.S. Women's National Development Squad and the U.S. Women's National Team.

In her first season with the Wildcats in 2016, Curley started all 21 of the team's matches and ranked fourth on the team with seven goals. Vaziri saw action in each of the team's 21 contests, contributing three assists.

Katzman posted three goals during her freshman season while competing in each of the Wildcats' matches. Barry and Esselman both redshirted last season, while Wood joins the program this fall after earning NFHCA All-America honors as a prep.
