Wildcats Shine at Arena Pro Swim Series in Atlanta

ATLANTA – The Northwestern women's swimming and diving team competed at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Atlanta at the McAuley Aquatic Center this weekend against elite competition.
Five Wildcats set personal-best times as the USA Championship Series circuit made its fourth stop out of five at Georgia Tech. To compete in the series, swimmers needed qualifying standard times for each individual event.
Freshman Valerie Gruest Slowing grabbed the headlines in the 400 IM after swimming a new Guatemalan national record and personal-best time of 4:51.33 to finish fifth in the finals. Along with her 2:13.18 time in the 200 fly, she qualified for the World Championships this summer in both events.
Senior Melissa Postoll also had a strong weekend for the Wildcats. She finished third in the 200 back [2:12.84], eighth in the 100 back [1:02.80], ninth in the 400 IM [4:50.56] and tenth in the 200 IM [2:17.76]. She set personal bests in the 200 IM, the 400 free [4:24.42] and the 200 breast [2:43.24].
Junior Mary Warren posted two personal best times with a 1:15.92 in the 100 breast and a 1:06.21 in the 100 fly. Freshman Malorie Han also finished in a personal best time of 1:06.66 in the 100 fly while freshman Emma Hruby swam a personal best in the 400 IM with a 5:06.29.
Warren also competed in the finals of the 50 free and finished 27th with a time of 26.82. Hruby finished 30th in the 200 breast finals with a 2:40.85.
Freshman Sandra Freeman took 19th in the 400 IM finals with a 4:59.84 and 20th in the 200 back finals with a 2:23.26.
Freshman Krystal Lara swam in several finals, finishing 17th in the 200 back [2:18.88], 20th in the 100 fly [1:01.69], 27th in the 100 free [57.75] and 29th in the 200 free [2:05.53].
Nicole Aarts also qualified for the final in the 200 back and finished 19th with a 2:21.11.
