EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern senior Strong Kirchheimer has been selected to compete in the NCAA Singles Tournament later this month following the team tournament.

Fellow senior Konrad Zieba was selected as the fifth alternate for the event.

Kirchheimer has had a tremendous year at the No. 1 spot for the Wildcats, racking up a 26-11 overall record and a 17-7 mark in duals. He boasts eight wins over ranked opponents and was recently named a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection.

The NCAA singles tournament appearance will be the second in a row for Kirchheimer. He is in the midst of a record-setting career at Northwestern, ranking first in doubles wins (71), second in singles winning percentage (.754), fourth in singles wins (105) and fourth in doubles winning percentage (.654).

This year would mark the second consecutive appearance for Zieba as well, should he ultimately make the field. Zieba holds a 21-10 record, including 19-7 in duals, largely at the No. 2 position.

Kirchheimer and Zieba, along with fellow senior Sam Shropshire, captained Northwestern to its sixth straight NCAA tournament appearance and fifth consecutive 20-win season. The Wildcats (21-10) will face Utah State (23-8) on Friday, May 12, in Berkeley, California, in the first round of the Cal regional.
