Fletcher Named 2017 WGCA Central Region Coach Of The Year

EVANSTON, Illinois – For the second consecutive year, Northwestern's Emily Fletcher has been selected as the Golf Pride Grips WGCA Central Region Coach of the Year, the Women's Golf Coaches Association announced on Wednesday.
Fletcher guided the Wildcats to a runner-up finish at the 2017 NCAA Women's Golf Championships at Rich Harvest Farms to conclude another sensational year on the course and in the classroom.
Northwestern won the 2017 Hurricane Invitational and the 2017 Pepperdine Triangular, earned its third straight Top-2 result at NCAA Regionals and captured the NCAA Stroke Play Championship to secure the No. 1 seed in match play competition. The four-time Big Ten Coach of the Year has led the 'Cats to the program's best-ever finish at the NCAA Championships in five consecutive seasons.
Academically, all eight eligible Wildcats on the roster received Academic All-Big Ten distinction this spring.
These awards are determined by vote from the Division I Awards Committee upon review of the 10 highest ranked coaches in each region and their respective records for the full year. East Region Coach of the Year: Emily Bastel Glaser, University of Florida
The Golf Pride Grips WGCA National Coach of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 6 on Morning Drive on the Golf Channel, set to air from 7-9 a.m. ET. Fletcher is joined in the group of finalists by East Region honoree Emily Bastel Glaser from the University of Florida, and Missy Farr-Kaye of Arizona State University, who earned the West Region nod.
About the Women's Golf Coaches Association
The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
